Varicose Vein Surgery Post Operative Instructions ACTIVITIES You will feel tired for the first few days. Gradually increase your daily activities. Walking a half hour per day is the best way to start your recovery. If you are not up and about please lie down with your legs elevated. Stair climbing and walking are fine. There are no restrictions regarding driving after the first 24 hours. INCISIONAL CARE There are no sutures to remove. You can take off the ACE wrap 24 hours after you get home and shower. The ACE wrap should be reapplied daily (it does not have to be worn at night). For mild discomfort Tylenol is appropriate as well as an ice pack applied to the area of pain.. PRECAUTIONS Avoid heavy exercise the first ten days. If you develop severe leg swelling please call our office. Remember- All things in moderation and Healing takes time. MEDICATIONS/PRESCRIPTIONS Please continue with all your regular medications you were taking before surgery. A prescription for pain pills will be given post operatively. When the incisions have healed a prescription for appropriate support hose will be given (knee high). DIET Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables as well as your regular diet. Pain pills are constipating which is why we stress fruits as well as regular activity. FOLLOW UP Please see your surgeon one week to ten days after the surgery. Yearly follow up vascular testing is an integral part of your care. Please keep all scheduled office visits as well as scheduled testing.
