Overview of Peripheral Vascular Disease: Education and Treatment Options

item5b2

Vascular Solutions diagnoses and treats disease as they relate to all of the blood vessels in the body with the exception of the heart. Vascular problems range from the swollen leg to leaking abdominal aortic aneurysms. The evaluation of any vascular problem starts with a careful history and physical exam. This information is supplemented with noninvasive vascular testing and other conventional x-rays like CT scans or angiography. Because vascular disease is a systemic process, careful attention is paid to medical ailments, which cause vascular disease, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. Smoking is also an important factor in the development of vascular disease. The history of coronary artery disease is but one manifestation of the systemic presentation of vascular disease and often is correlated particularly with lower extremity disease and carotid disease. Although some vascular disease problems often mandate minimally invasive or surgical correction most vascular problems can be managed with medication, exercise and life style modification.
