After the surgery it takes about 2-3 weeks to recover and regain your "sea legs". Patients commonly notice the following:

item5b2

1. Leg edema - the leg is swollen after the angioplasty due to increased blood flow, it will decrease over time and the leg should be periodically elevated.

2. Incision/Puncture site pain - Pain will abate over time and will be manageable with oral pain meds by discharge

3. Wounds - Occasionally a hematoma will develop at the puncture site. If it persists, an ultrasound will be performed for further evaluation

4. Patients are sent home on one baby aspirin per day and 75 mg of Plavix per day. This assists in maintaining an open and healthy blood vessel.
